Simple habits that protect polish, settings and long-term appearance.

Daily handling

18k and 22k gold is softer than lower-karat alloys. Remove pieces before exercise, manual work and sleep. Chlorinated water — pools and hot tubs — weakens prong settings over time.

Apply perfume and cosmetics before putting on jewellery, not after. Residues accumulate around settings and dull the stone's face.

Cleaning at home

A soft brush with mild soap and warm water is safe for most pieces. Ultrasonic cleaners are effective for plain metal but should not be used on pieces with fracture-filled stones, treated gems or fragile settings.

Dry thoroughly before storing. Moisture trapped under settings accelerates tarnish on alloy metals and can loosen adhesive-set stones.
